Can Alpine Disrupt the F1 Pecking Order and Break Into the Top Ranks

Alpine became the fourth team to unveil their car on February 7th for the 2024 season. Alpine's unique approach involves using two colors: blue for 16 races and a pink livery for the remaining 8 races. The intriguing question arises: does Alpine have a surprise strategy that could potentially shake up the F1 pecking order in 2024?

Alpine has introduced a completely new car, with changes spanning from the front wing to the rear wing, excluding the steering wheel. This overhaul poses a significant challenge as the team anticipates starting from the bottom of the field. Despite this, the drivers are well informed and prepared for a demanding season.

While introducing a completely new design doesn't always signify a setback, it's unlikely that Alpine will immediately match the top ranks this season. The chances are slim, but there's optimism that they could catch up with the leading teams in the latter half of the season. The true capabilities of the car remain unknown to both the team and observers.

The drivers express cautious confidence, acknowledging that they may not fight at the front from the start but are optimistic about making progress throughout the year. Both drivers were present at Alpine's launch event.

Bruno Famin, Alpine's VP of Motorsports and Team Principal of the Alpine F1 Team, highlighted the significance of the moment for Alpine Motorsports, presenting both the A524 Formula 1 car and the A424 Hypercar. He emphasized the hard work of the thousands of talented employees in the United Kingdom and France.

Famin stated, "The next stage on our journey is deploying everything to the track, applying operational excellence across the board, and growing a greater dynamic and mindset from all our teams. We are all very much looking forward to continuing the hard work to bring the Alpine name success.”

Esteban Ocon expressed his excitement for the season, emphasizing the culmination of thousands of hours of hard work, though noting he hasn't yet seen the complete car in person. Pierre Gasly conveyed his confidence and improvement compared to the previous year, citing familiarity with the team dynamics.

In Gasly's words, "It is nice to have continuity and building on the foundations that we created last year. I am confident that I can attack the season straight away and maximize the full potential of the team.”
